Known locally as ‘the Remarks’, The Remarkables ski area is a true freestyle haven. There are terrain parks, super-pipes and challenging off-piste trails with narrow chutes and rock drops.
On Friday and Saturday nights beginning in July, Queenstown’s Coronet Peak ski field turns on the floodlights to extend your time on the snow. Night skiing is even more magical if you time your trip for a full moon.
Just 45 minutes drive from the alpine resort town of Queenstown, The Remarkables ski area offers beginner, intermediate and advanced trails for skiers and boarders. From the top of the shadow basin chairlift is only a short walk to the lookout at the edge of the ski area. From here the Mountain drops dramatically to the valley floor below – a must-do photo opportunity.
Skiing’s great in the South Island, but it’s not the only option for fun. If you crave excitement, try a bungy jump or canyon swing. For adventure, find a river safari or jet boat ride. If you’re feeling relaxed, try horse-riding or bike a local wine trail. Wherever you’re based, it’s all within easy reach.
